How Much Does SEO Cost in Maryland? (2026 Price Guide)
What Maryland SEO agencies actually publish about price, what drives the cost up or down, the red flags of cheap SEO, and Kause Marketing Agency's own published rates. Every outside figure links to its source.
What SEO Costs in Maryland, With Sources
If you run a business in Maryland and you have asked three SEO agencies for a price, you probably got three different numbers, or no number at all. That is normal. Most agencies quote after a sales call, and very few publish a rate card.
This guide pulls together what Maryland and Maryland-serving agencies actually publish about price, checked in October 2026, with a link to every page we used. Then it covers what moves the price up or down, the pricing models you will run into, the warning signs of cheap SEO, and what Kause Marketing Agency charges. Our own prices are on our pricing page for anyone to read.
The short answer
Among Maryland-serving agencies that publish a monthly starting point, most land between $1,500 and $3,000 a month. A few budget providers list minimums under $1,000. Agencies that describe what their typical client spends put it well above their starting price. The details and sources are below.
What Maryland SEO Agencies Publish About Price
We checked agency websites and one agency directory for firms that are based in Maryland or run Baltimore and Annapolis SEO pages. Here is what each one shows in public.
- Straight North says on its SEO pricing page that its prices start at $1,500 per month and that most businesses invest $4,000 to $8,000 per month. Its Baltimore SEO page adds that Baltimore clients tend to invest $3,000 to $6,000 a month.
- Single Grain gives a market estimate on its Baltimore SEO page, not its own rate: $1,500 to $5,000 a month for small to mid-sized Baltimore businesses. The same page says Baltimore pricing runs about 15 to 20 percent below Washington, DC.
- MarketKeep, headquartered in Towson, says on its Baltimore SEO page that its most expensive SEO package is $850. The page does not say whether that is monthly or one-time. It also says contracts renew month-to-month and that it asks for 45 days to show its work.
- Thrive Agency publishes no SEO prices on its Baltimore SEO page. Its contact form's monthly budget menu for SEO and related services starts at $2,500 to $5,000. That tells you who the form is built for, but it is not a price.
- EZMarketing, based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, publishes no prices on its Baltimore SEO page. It says cost depends on your goals, your competition and how your website performs today.
- CodeWCG, a Houston agency with Annapolis location pages, publishes no prices on its Annapolis SEO page. It asks you to book a discovery call.
- Web Tonic published a roundup of Baltimore SEO agencies covering 18 firms. Seventeen are marked "quote-based." The only figure in its comparison table is Web Tonic's own $3,000 a month starting price.
The pattern is plain. Most agencies serving Maryland do not publish a price at all. The ones that do mostly start between $1,500 and $3,000 a month, and the real spend for their typical client is higher. If a quote you received sits far below that band, ask what is left out. If it sits far above, ask what the extra buys.
Five Things That Drive SEO Pricing in Maryland
Two businesses on the same street can need very different budgets. These five factors explain most of the gap.
Competition in your market and industry
A roofer in a small Eastern Shore town and a personal injury firm in downtown Baltimore are not buying the same amount of work. In crowded categories like law, dental and HVAC across Baltimore, Montgomery and Howard counties, the businesses already ranking have years of reviews, pages and links behind them. Closing that gap takes more hours each month.
Number of locations and service areas
Each physical location needs its own Google Business Profile work, citation cleanup and review flow. Each city you want to rank in usually needs its own genuinely local landing page, not a copy with the town name swapped. A business serving one city and one serving five counties are different-sized jobs.
Size and condition of your website
A 15-page service site and a Shopify store with thousands of products need very different technical work. Crawl problems, duplicate pages, slow templates and broken redirects have to be fixed before new content pays off, and bigger sites take longer to audit and repair.
How much content you need
Service pages, location pages, product and category copy, and blog posts are where most of the hours go. If your site has thin pages, or no page at all for services you sell, the first months lean heavily on writing and the budget reflects that.
Links and local authority
Earning mentions from Maryland publications, chambers, trade associations, suppliers and community groups takes real outreach time. Buying links in bulk is cheaper, and it is also one of the fastest ways to get a site into trouble with Google. That is why honest link work costs more than a cheap package suggests.
SEO Pricing Models You Will Run Into
Monthly retainer
This is the most common model for SEO in Maryland and the one every published figure above refers to. You pay a set fee each month for ongoing work: technical fixes, content, local SEO, links and reporting. Before you sign, ask about the minimum term, what is delivered each month, and how you cancel once the term ends.
One-time project
A fixed scope for a fixed fee: an SEO audit, a site migration, a set of location pages, or a cleanup of a Shopify store's collections and product pages. Projects make sense before a retainer, so you know what needs doing, or when you have someone in-house who can carry out the plan.
Hourly consulting
Some consultants and freelancers bill by the hour for advice, training or specific fixes. None of the Maryland agency pages or directory listings we checked published an hourly rate, so you will need to ask. Hourly works for small, well-defined tasks. It is hard to budget for ongoing SEO this way, because you never quite know what next month costs.

There is nothing wrong with a small budget. A single-location business in a quiet market may not need much, and a low-cost provider can be the right call. The problem starts when a low price is only possible because the parts of SEO that move rankings have been cut. Watch for these warning signs:
- Guaranteed rankings. Promises like "page one in 30 days" or "guaranteed #1." No agency controls Google's results.
- No written deliverables. If you cannot say what will be done in month one, month two and month three, you are paying for activity you cannot check.
- Bulk link packages. "500 backlinks" for a flat fee, private blog networks or link swaps. These can do more harm than good.
- Templated city pages. Dozens of near-identical pages with only the town name changed. They rarely rank and can drag the rest of the site down.
- The agency owns your accounts. Your Google Business Profile, Search Console, Analytics and website logins should be in your name, with the agency added as a user.
- Reports with no business numbers. Rankings for phrases nobody searches, and no calls, form fills or sales.
- Unclear exit terms. Any minimum term should be stated in writing, along with exactly how and when you can cancel.
What a smaller budget can honestly buy: a Google Business Profile cleanup, citation fixes, a few well-written service pages, basic technical repairs, or a one-time audit with a plan your team carries out.

Our Local Starter plan sits at the same starting point as several of the published Maryland figures above. We are not the cheapest option in the state and do not try to be. We would rather scope a plan that does the work your market actually needs.
How to Set Your SEO Budget
A few practical steps before you compare quotes:
- Start from what a customer is worth. Work out what one new client or order is worth to you over a year, then how many extra a month would make the spend pay for itself. That number tells you which tier makes sense far better than a competitor's budget does.
- Match the plan to your footprint. One location in one city is a local plan. Several counties means more location pages and Google Business Profile work. An online store means catalog, collection and technical work, often for a national audience.
- Give it enough time. SEO builds slowly. Budget for the minimum term plus enough months to judge the trend, and agree up front which numbers you will judge it on: calls, form fills, orders or revenue.
- Ask every agency the same questions. What exactly happens in month one? Who owns the accounts? What does the monthly report show? How do I cancel? Can I see the scope in writing?

SEO Cost in Maryland: Common Questions
Straight answers on price, contracts and where to start.
Among the Maryland-serving agencies we checked that publish a number, monthly starting points mostly sit between $1,500 and $3,000, with a few budget providers listing minimums under $1,000. Straight North says most of its clients invest $4,000 to $8,000 a month. Kause Marketing Agency's retainers are $1,500, $3,000 and $5,500 a month, with Enterprise from $10,000. See our pricing page.
It can be, if the scope matches your needs. A single-location business in a quiet market may only need Google Business Profile work, citation cleanup and a few strong service pages. Be careful when a low price comes with guaranteed rankings, bulk links, templated city pages or no written list of deliverables.
Many prefer to quote after a call because scope varies with competition, number of locations, site size and content needs. That is a fair reason, but it makes comparison hard. If an agency will not give a written scope and price after the first call, ask why.
Terms vary and many agencies do not publish them. MarketKeep says its contracts renew month-to-month. Kause Marketing Agency retainers have a 90-day minimum, then month-to-month, with the setup fee waived on 12-month commitments. Whatever you sign, get the minimum term and cancellation steps in writing.
